Best practices for competing “rights” in the workplace is the focus of Nemeth Law’s Raising the Bar series on May 16th

| Detroit, Michigan

Raising the Bar, an educational series raising employer awareness of current issues in employment and labor law and offered by Detroit-based management side labor and employment law firm Nemeth Law, P.C., returns Tuesday, May 16th, to cover the topic of Best Practices for Competing Rights in the Workplace.

With more employees asserting their “rights” in the workplace, and other employees countering with their own competing “rights”, employers can be stuck between a rock and a hard place, says attorney Terry Bonnette, a partner at Nemeth Law.

“Providing disability or religious accommodation to one employee may seemingly or actually disadvantage another employee,” Bonnette said. “What if an employee is allergic to another’s service dog? Or perhaps what seems like protected speech to one employee creates the perception of a hostile work environment to another? The potential for legitimate counter arguments are vexing more employers each day.”

At the May 16th Raising the Bar session, Nemeth Law attorneys will discuss best practices for employers in today’s charged workplace climate. Topics include:

      • Policing Politics: Polarization in the workplace.
      • Controlling the Conversation: Protected speech or hostile work environment?
      • Culture Clash: Diversity decisions that divide.
      • Reasonably Unreasonable: When accommodating one employee disadvantages others.
      • Religious Freedom Restoration Act: When do the employer’s religious beliefs become a defense to discrimination claims?

Raising the Bar will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Management Education Center, 811 West Square Lake Road, Troy, Michigan 48098. Continental breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m. The program begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 11:45 a.m. with one 15-minute break. The cost of the event is $75 per person and pre-registration is required. To register, e-mail Pamela Perkowski at pperkowski@nemethlawpc.com or call 313.567.5921.
