Nemeth Law co-managing partner Terry Bonnette named a Michigan Lawyers Weekly Go To Lawyer in Employment Law

| Detroit, Michigan

Terry Bonnette, co-managing partner of Detroit-based management side labor and employment law firm Nemeth Law, P.C., has been named a 2021 Michigan Lawyers Weekly (MLW) Go To Lawyer in Employment Law.  His profile can be viewed here. The MLW Go To Lawyer series recognizes Michigan attorneys in various fields of law. A “Michigan Go To Lawyer” is defined as:

  • An expert in his or her field, well-versed in the nuances of the case law, statutes and regulations clients will encounter.
  • Experienced, with a record of success in many cases and/or transactions.
  • A lawyer to whom other lawyers make referrals because of his or her expertise and accomplishments.
  • A lawyer who can think creatively and identify all options for a client.
  • A lawyer you would name when a friend needs legal help.
  • A lawyer you might call yourself if you needed legal help in his or her field of expertise.

Bonnette joined Nemeth Law in 2004 after serving as a law clerk for the firm during law school. A successful litigator, he is also known as an educator – keeping clients informed on developments and trends in employment law that help them create and sustain a workplace of choice. To that end, Bonnette created Nemeth Law’s Raising the Bar, a quarterly educational series focused on increasing employer awareness of trending issues in employment law. He is also regularly sought out by clients for day-to-day legal counseling on the hiring and firing decisions, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and, over the past year, a variety of issues related to the pandemic, including the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA). He also presents on-site and virtual training programs for supervisors and executives on hot-button issues, as well as the nuts and bolts of HR.

The law is a second career for Bonnette, who started his professional life as a debate and forensics coach at Bradley University, where he was also a student on the debate and forensics team as an undergrad. He also coached at Illinois State University while he was in graduate school, and at Eastern Michigan University, where he coached for seven years and served as an adjunct faculty member. In all, Bonnette coached 44 individual national champions during his debate and forensics coaching career.

The 2021 MLW Go To Lawyer in Employment Law is one of many legal honors Bonnette has received. He has also been named a Michigan Leading Lawyer and Michigan Super Lawyer. He is a Sustaining Life Fellow, American Bar Foundation, and a Planning Committee member for the Institute for Continuing Legal Education’s (ICLE) annual Labor and Employment Law Institute.

Bonnette holds a Juris Doctor from Wayne State University School of Law, a Master of Science in Communication and Rhetoric from Illinois State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Communication from Bradley University.

Bonnette joins his co-managing partner Deborah Brouwer in the prestigious Go To Lawyer ranks. Brouwer was named a Go To Lawyer in Business Law in 2020.
